SRC from last year need to attend a skills maintenance or you will not be able to compete. Skills maintenance is intended to ensure all patrolling lifesavers remain proficient in their skills and display the appropriate knowledge and understanding of patrol award criteria.

Whilst skills maintenance will look similar to previous years, four critical updates are outlined below.

1. The SLSA Sexual Harassment and Misconduct training is mandatory for patrolling members this season. It has been built into the SRC and Bronze Medallion skills maintenance eLearning to capture most members. It can also be accessed separately for those not completing SRC/Bronze who are planning to patrol during the season.

2. Skills maintenance processing should occur using the new Skills Maintenance App. Skills Maintenance cards will be available and processed by raising a standard Form 14. The new Skills Maintenance App is the preferred processing option as it will automatically check for eLearning completion, increase processing speed, and significantly reduce the workload of the Chief Training Officer and Area Training and Assessment Officers.

3. IRB Crew and Driver skills maintenance includes more extensive eLearning and practical activities this year. This is to upskill current award holders to the recently released IRB Crew and Driver award curriculum content. For further information, please refer to the recent circular.

What is Skills Maintenance?
Lifesaving clubs are responsible for ensuring members maintain their skills to the minimum
standard set by SLSA. The guiding principle for skills maintenance is that lifesaving clubs can meet their service level agreements with confidence in members’ lifesaving skills and abilities.
All active lifesavers are required to complete a skills maintenance assessment to show currency
in the life saving award/s they hold under the supervision of a Traner, Assessor or Facilitator (TAF).
Skills maintenance assessments are necessary to:
• Ensure ongoing proficiency of members in their area of training and activities.
• Maintain the standards of knowledge and expertise of lifesavers.
• Satisfy legal and statutory requirements.
• Reinforce and maintain our service commitment to the beach-going community.
All members who wish to undertake patrol duties or compete in competitions at a State or National level must undertake annual skills maintenance activities to maintain proficiency.
What does Skills Maintenance cover?
Skills maintenance includes practical assessment activities and (for select awards) an online
learning/theory component. Skills Maintenance is in place for the awards listed below and should
be completed annually unless stated otherwise.

A summary of the skills maintenance process is provided below:
A) Book into the selected skills maintenance session through the member training portal
https://mt.lsv.com.au/courses/
You may not be able to do the practical if your online leaning is not complete.
B) Receive a confirmation email and check all details are accurate.
C) Access and complete the online learning / theory test in the member training portal (if
applicable)
D) Attend the face-to-face session/s.
E) Get your skills maintenance card signed off by an endorsed TAF. (online this year)
G) Provide your completed card to the skills maintenance session Coordinator.
