Dear Members,
As we prepare for the 2025 patrol season, there are several important changes to how Skills Maintenance will be delivered this year. Please read the following information carefully to ensure you are ready and compliant for the season ahead.
Important:
You must complete the online Lifesaving CPR modules prior to attending your session.
If you have not completed these modules, you will be asked to attend a different session.
Key Changes to Skills Maintenance:
Dry and Wet Components Held Separately
This year, Skills Maintenance will be completed in two parts, delivered on different days:
Session 1: Dry Session
Covers CPR (including the new Lifesaving CPR), theory, and first aid elements.
➤ You must complete this first.
Session 2: Run Swim Rescue (Wet Session)
This will now be conducted during your Patrol Group’s first patrol. There is no separate booking required for this – just ensure you are rostered and present.
New CPR Format
The updated Lifesaving CPR protocol will be taught in the Dry session. It’s essential all members complete this before returning to patrol.
Session One: Dry Session – Lifesaving CPR Practical
Duration: Approx. 90 minutes
This session covers the practical component of Lifesaving CPR.
Required for Bronze Medallion and SRC holders.
You will demonstrate:

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
This practical session is essential and forms the bulk of the skills maintenance for Bronze and SRC.
If you require HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation:
Complete the online learning component for HLTAID009. (Resuscitation)
Book into a Resuscitation Course (Resus.) to complete the qualification.
If you hold ARTFA, this will also be added at the end. Please do online learning and book into the resuscitation award. (You must hold the resus. award for your ARTFA to be current)
Session Two: Wet Session – Run-Swim-Rescue
(Conducted on your Patrol’s first patrol)
This new Run-Swim-Rescue format replaces the traditional Run-Swim-Run and separate rescue assessments.
You will be required to:
Complete a 100m run
Followed by a 100m swim
Must be completed in 3 minutes 30 seconds or less
On reaching a patient in the water, the timed component ends.
Complete a tube rescue of a conscious patient back to shore
Swim fins are optional for the swim leg.
IRB Skills
IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) skills will also be assessed on your first patrol.
